Role Purpose:

 

As Head of Flight Crew (HOFC), you will lead and manage a team of pilots, with responsibility for providing guidance and support to team members, overseeing the recruitment and onboarding process. Responsible for driving crew engagement, managing performance and overseeing workflow, quality and compliance, and developing and building flight operations alignment to company culture.


The Role:

 

  • Demonstrate clear leadership and understanding of efficient working practices and actively promote within the working environment.
  • Support and implement continuous improvement and change process through self-awareness, education and engagement in order to encourage improvements in working practices and to deliver for all stakeholders.
  • Non-technical line management of all pilots.
  • Management of all policies and processes contained in the Aircrew Handbook (ensuring compliance with Employee Handbook policies)
  • Own and deliver all non-technical departmental communications
  • Coordinate the departmental relationship and interaction with HR to ensure consistency of Company approach to employee relations, and alignment to Company practices
  • Recruitment and selection of pilots and maintenance of standards and effective headcount.
  • Own and manage the departmental admin support function.
  • Conflict resolution, disciplinary actions and performance management for non-compliance
  • Carry out other duties as delegated by the Head of Flight Ops
  • To be an advocate of the Aurigny Values RESPECT
  • Budget support for Head of Flight Ops and Head of Aircrew Training
  • Developing employee skills and performance through training and coaching
  • Monitoring and taking action to improve and maintain employee attendance

  • Essential Skills/Experience:
  • Previous line management experience within a multi-faceted department.
  • Experience in a customer focus role
  • Collaborative approach to reaching satisfactory outcomes across departments

Experience of managing complex employee matters whilst complying with legislative requirements

Flexible approach to adapting situations

Patient and calm approach to people management situations

Ability to use active listening skills and understanding of employee concerns

Conflict resolution experience

  • Strong organisational skills to coordinate evolving situations and tasks simultaneously
  • Understanding and exposure to Company policies and procedures and evidence of implementing these effectively to satisfactory outcome
  • Understanding of Guernsey working environment and island culture

Desirable professional and/or regulatory requirements:

  • Member of Institute of Leadership and Development or Chartered Management Institute (or similar)
  • 5 years plus at managerial level
  • Coaching and mentoring skills
  • Local status to live and work on Guernsey
  • 5 Years employment record, and satisfactory Basic Police Disclosure (for Airside pass application)
