History
Founded in Alderney in 1968, Aurigny is the only airline based in Alderney and Guernsey, and is dedicated to serving the people of the islands, and those visiting the islands.
Our philosophy is to provide frequent services at good value fares, and to offer the most reliable services possible.


1968

Sir Derrick Bailey forms Aurigny Air Services. In its first year, the airline carries 45,000 passengers between Guernsey, Jersey and Alderney.

1971
Aurigny is the first company in the world to operate the Britten-Norman Trislander.

1975
1 millionth passenger carried.

1977
Aurigny bans smoking on all scheduled flights, long before any anti-smoking campaigns.

1992
Aurigny becomes the official freight carrier for the Royal Mail from Jersey.

1999
Aurigny begins operating daily services to London Stansted from Guernsey with Saab 340 aircraft.

2000
Aurigny begins a daily, direct service to Manchester Airport from Guernsey. Malcolm Hart is appointed Managing Director.

2001
Aurigny begins operating daily services to East Midlands Airport from Guernsey.
2002
aurigny.com is launched, featuring a new on-line booking facility.

2003
Aurigny launches a new daily service between Guernsey and Bristol International Airport.

Aurigny is acquired by the States of Guernsey in a deal to safeguard the future of several key air links, including the threatened Guernsey-London Gatwick route.

The company starts a three times daily service between Guernsey and Gatwick on 16 June, introducing a 66 seater ATR 72 into the fleet.

Aurigny begins services to London Stansted from Jersey.

2004
The airline's 9 millionth passenger is carried.aurigny.com's sales top 12 million in just 20 months.

2005
All UK services from Guernsey are now operated by 66 seat ATR72 aircraft.
June: Over 50% of all passengers make their bookings via aurigny.com

2006
Jan: The airlines millionth passenger is carried on Alderney-Southampton route. Overall, Aurigny has flown 10 million passengers in its 38-year history.

June: A survey by leading market researchers islandopinion.com reveals that Aurigny is the most popular airline flying out of Guernsey.

Oct: Aurigny makes national headlines after flying a very rare Albino lobster to safety at Guernsey Aquarium.

2007
All inter-island services are now operated by 15-seat Trislander aircraft, with up to 16 flights in each direction per day.

Aurigny announces that it will start a scheme allowing passengers to eradicate their carbon footprint.

Feb: In the last 12 months over 63% of all passengers make their bookings via aurigny.com

Jun: Aurigny introduces a new website and electronic ticketing.

Aug: Aurigny announces order for two new ATR72-500 series aircraft, to be delivered in early 2010.

2008
Mar: Aurigny celebrated 40 years in operation and is voted 4th best short-haul airline in a poll published in the consumer magazine "Which?"

2009
Aurigny take delivery of two ATR 72-500's. Combined with very low CO2 and noise emissions, the new aircraft boast the highest standards of comfort and offer an improved configuration of 72 seats.

Mar: Aurigny is granted a licence to operate services between
Jersey and London Stansted, and between Guernsey and East Midlands. Daily flights between these destinations commenced from 1 May 2009.

May: The frequency of flights from
Guernsey to London Gatwick is increased from 4 to 5 daily return flights.

Aug: Aurigny announced that it would be operating winter flights to
Grenoble using its ATR 72-500 equipment. The flights will run from December 26th 2009 to mid-way through February 2010.
